The Countryside Council for Wales have recently published the results of work carried out by Ecology Matters on Skomer Island. The Report – Little Owls and Storm Petrels on Skomer Island (CCW Contract Science Report 674) details the results of a study of little owls and their possible effects on storm petrels on the island. Little owls are known to predate storm petrels and the study included a literature search for details of little owl diet, a study of little owl pellets and radio tracking the owls across the island. The study shows that the owls do predate storm petrels, but without better knowledge of the storm petrel population it is dificult to assess impacts. Recommendations are given for further study and monitoring. The report is available from ccw – www.ccw.gov.uk
