ecologymatters are able to carry out a wide variety of ecological surveys to high standards. We have over 60 years experience of carrying out fieldwork worldwide and are particularly experienced in working in difficult environments. ecologymatters are able to design suitable surveys, carry out fieldwork and report in clear, concise terms putting results into local, regional and national context. Reporting can include GIS formats if required.

Bird survey capabilities include:

Bird survey

Status and breeding success of individual species; whole site surveys using such methods as Common Bird Census and Breeding Bird Survey; moorland surveys using methods such as 'Brown and Shepherd'; winter bird surveys, including Vantage Point Surveys marine surveys using Seabirds at Sea methodology; ringing studies to look at site usage and turnover of birds; radio tracking of birds can also be undertaken. Licences held for work on many scheduled species.

Examples of recent work

Breeding bird and vantage point surveys of potential windfarm sites to SNH guidelines; nightjar surveys, including radio tracking; barn owl surveys; upland wader survey; wintering wader survey and site assessment in the Middle East.

Mammals surveys capabilities include


Surveys of individual species by a variety of methods; small mammal trapping; bat surveys; boat and land based surveys of cetaceans and radio tracking of a variety of species.

Red squirrels ­ survey of habitat usage including radio tracking; project management of surveys of cetaceans in Cardigan Bay for CCW (photo id licence held), bat surveys for road schemes and windfarm developments.
